F E L A !

This past friday I went to see the award winning musical Fela! For those who may not know the musical is based off Nigeria's own, Fela Kuti. Fela was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, pioneer of Afrobeat music, human rights activist, and political rebel. He used his music as a weapon, condemning military regimes in Nigeria for their mismanagement and mistreatment of the underprivileged. As a result he was constantly harassed, arrested more than 200 times, and beaten savagely on many occasions. The play tells the story of Fela's triumphs, trials, and tribulations through his epic music.

The show was very fun and interactive and the actor who played Fela (Adesola Osakalumi) was amazing! He truly embodied Fela's whole persona to a T! Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child was also in the play. Of course she had her awkward moments lol but overall she did a good job as well. It is definitely worth seeing, especially if you are a big fan of his music. February 10 is actually the last day of the show down here in DC but I believe it comes annually so its never too late to see it.

Here are a few pics from the evening, including my outfit of the night!
